Interactive computing refers to working with software that accepts input from the user as it runs. This applies not only to business and office applications, such as word processing and spreadsheet software, but HPC use cases involving code development, real-time data exploration and advanced visualizations run across one or more compute nodes. Interactive computing is often used when applications require large memory, have large data sets that are not that practical to download to local devices, need access to higher core counts, or rely on software that is difficult to install.

This short course (2.5 hours) introduces different ways to use MATLAB on the ACES cluster and how to leverage its parallel resources. Participants will use MATLAB on the portal through the interactive MATLAB App and learn how create and submit MATLAB jobs using the Drona Composer. Other topics include how to start parallel pools and utilize GPUs on ACES. Exercises will be performed using the ACES cluster, a composable accelerator testbed at Texas A&M University.

Have you ever wondered about the “why” of HTCondor? Join us to hear about the “philosophy” of high throughput computing and how HTCondor has evolved to make throughput computing possible. This workshop will be led by a core HTCondor developer, Greg Thain, and is a perfect opportunity for longer-term OSPool users to learn more about our underlying technology.

In the final workshop of the Generative AI series, participants will learn about the advanced aspects of generative AI, focusing on customizing and tuning their models. Recommended for those who have attended the first two parts or have equivalent knowledge, this session will provide guidance on best practices for model tuning and customization. The workshop will present an overview of techniques and considerations for personalizing generative AI models, including parameter adjustments, dataset selection, and ethical considerations in model development.
